So you’ve gathered this is a pretty un-scientific experiment and seemingly pointless but there is one blazing issue here that relates to website or application design. If it’s not usable, it won’t get used. I rarely use the calendar on my iPhone because I find it takes too long – some websites and applications suffer the same issues. The website design process needs to go through a usability testing phase in which testers have the chance to feedback on things like how easy it was to interact, buy or find information.

Hi Mark, great little article. Solopress are great. Can be a little expensive though - especially on the Spot UV front.
@Greg - You can have a foil block onto a Matt Laminate, done well it can look great. There are various options - remember if you want the same effect of the Spot UV on an uncoated stock you can use a clear foil and you'll get the similar results.
Hope that helps?

Agreed. Sure, it is possible to find a template that suits your needs and there are a lot of good ones available, but the vast majority of the time, templated websites don't fit the purpose of the clients sites and look all to generic. Further more, many clients just don't seem to understand that they are very restricted to what they can achieve with layout on templated web design - I often find it a real headache having to get out the metaphorical 'design hammer' and forcefully cram a clients brand and message into a preset template any which way I can.

No surprise to hear my 'handle' was Glass Man ( the original). Started off as a hobby engraving and got so busy it became a mill stone. Had some nice times with the CB, we used to have a thing called skip wher we could talk to people abroad and Scotland! The neighbours used to get angry when we used to interfere with their televisions. Remember Mags and Doug?? I would like to add it was you that had the mullett not me!

Hi Greg,

I used solopress.com for the cards and they were good.

I don't think I've seen a foil block on a matt laminate finish. It's worth checking with the printer to see if it's possible. It's worth noting too that foil blocking can be expensive.
